Raw materials are turned into a product that the customer can process further for their own purposes.<\/p><p><strong>Sub-disciplines of process engineering<\/strong><\/p><p><b>1. <\/b><b>mechanical process engineering: <\/b>This type of process engineering deals with material conversion processes that can be traced back to a mechanical effect and sees itself as a user of mechanics or fluid mechanics.<\/p><p><b>2. <\/b><b>thermal process engineering: <\/b>This sub-discipline includes thermal separation and cleaning processes as well as processes that belong to membrane technology.<\/p><p><b>3. <\/b><b>chemical process engineering: <\/b>This type of process engineering deals with chemical material conversion processes and forms the strongest link between process engineering and chemistry.<\/p><p><b>4. <\/b><b>electrochemical process engineering: <\/b>Electrochemical process engineering deals with the technical application of electrochemical phenomena.<\/p><p><b>5. <\/b><b>bioprocess engineering: <\/b>Bioprocess engineering is the part of process engineering that deals with biotechnological processes. Biotechnology makes material transformations through biological processes usable in technical applications.<\/p><p><b>6. <\/b><b>nanotechnology: <\/b>This part of process engineering combines highly interdisciplinary fields from physics, chemistry, biology and process engineering. It deals with substances and systems that may only consist of a few molecules.<\/p><section class=\"av_textblock_section av-jzwexl8j-3-6658f703c482bb39eafbb96e41b78c0c \"><div class=\"avia_textblock\"><p><strong>Studying process engineering &#8211; but where?<\/strong><\/p><p>The process engineering degree program combines engineering and natural sciences, with many points of contact to mechanical and plant engineering, measurement and automation technology, biotechnology, agriculture and food technology, as well as medicine, aerospace and deep-sea research.
