Drying systems for granulates and powders

System diversity as the basis for a dry result

Whether surface moisture, capillary moisture or crystal moisture – every product has its own drying requirements. Careful vacuum or spray drying is technically important as an additional process step before the further processing of numerous intermediate or end products in the chemical and food industries.

Your contract drying is in the best hands with Ebbecke Verfahrenstechnik AG, because we dry granulates and powders carefully according to your specific requirements. On request, we can even develop new and innovative drying processes for you.

Our company has a wide range of special systems from different industries to cover the variety of drying requirements and particle structures. In addition to the highly efficient vacuum drying tunnel developed in-house, which enables us to dry entire production campaigns at once, we also offer drying systems in various sizes with and without vacuum. We have systems of various hygiene standards at our disposal.

Another interesting variant is drying and transfer from the melt to granulate form by using cold in temperature ranges from -30 to -70°C as spray solidification. In the hot range, spray drying is used in particular for small to medium campaign sizes of 1.0 to 20 tons. We have systems that move the product during the drying process as well as static systems, e.g. on tray plates.

System diversity for perfect drying results

When selecting the drying process, our process engineers take into account, for example, the temperature sensitivity, resistance to ultraviolet radiation (infrared radiation), the surface structure and the capillary structure of the product to be dried. Of course, the differences in the initial moisture content and the desired residual moisture content must also be taken into account in the process engineering assessment of efficient contract drying.

However, not every dryer system is suitable for every item to be dried. In order to achieve perfect results, we therefore use different drying systems. Our customers can choose from fluidized bed dryers, drying ovens, belt dryers and vacuum dryers.

Ebbecke also uses innovative infrared dryers and microwave dryers, which play an important role for our customers in the pharmaceutical and food chemistry industries. For the food industry in particular, Ebbecke has been a point of contact for many years when it comes to the gentle and energy-efficient drying of food or ingredients.

Not only must the drying parameters be adhered to, but also special hygiene requirements. Last but not least, a high-quality drying process is characterized by the fact that the food is dried gently: The aroma, natural color, vitamin content and nutritional value of the food to be dried should be preserved as much as possible.

During drying, the exact determination of the moisture content forms the indispensable basis for a constantly low residual moisture content. In order to obtain meaningful data, the engineers at Ebbecke Verfahrenstechnik AG use various measuring methods. Several precise measuring systems and methods are available, such as the Coulometric Karl Fischer titration and other systems based on Karl Fischer’s methods. In addition, moisture meters from Sartorius and the computerized FMX HydroTracer system are used.

Depending on the product, target moisture levels of up to 0.02% can be achieved on our state-of-the-art systems. However, the best drying rate is useless if the know-how for the subsequent handling of the dry material is lacking. In more technical terms: The dried product must be protected from reabsorbing moisture. Ebbecke Verfahrenstechnik AG does this by overlaying it with nitrogen and by using plastic or aluminum inliners. In addition, the dried product can be further dried in a desiccator.

The following applies to all contract drying orders entrusted to us: our employees know that the product properties and process technologies have been worked hard for by our industrial partners. They also know that this know-how often forms the basis of a business model or a successful product. Customer, product and processing data relating to contract drying are therefore treated with the utmost confidentiality and discretion at Ebbecke. As part of the TIM concept (Total Industrial Management), Ebbecke is therefore the perfect outsourcing partner for any technical form of contract drying.
