What are Fibre Drums?
Fibre Drums are a popular, cost-effective and sustainable packaging solution. The shell of a Fibre Drum is usually made of kraftliner and a bottom and lid made of, for example, galvanized, recyclable sheet metal or other materials. The drums, which are available in various sizes and can also be custom-sized, are used for a wide variety of bulk materials in both the consumer and industrial sectors.
Applications of Fibre Drums
In the consumer sector, many people are familiar with the drums from unpackaging stores for packaging loose foodstuffs such as flour, rice or pasta in an environmentally friendly and plastic-free way. Fibre drum solutions are also established in industry for packaging powders, granules and semiliquid products in particular. For example, Fibre Drums are mainly used in chemical and pharmaceutical sectors to fill a wide variety of substances.
What types of Fibre Drums are there?
Various designs of Fibre Dums are available on the market, matched to the intended use and sustainability requirements. In addition, a wide range of sizes and capacity volumes can be realized. Drums for the transport of hazardous goods, with steam and/or aroma barrier or completely without barrier layer are also available. The base and lid can be made of sheet metal or cardboard and wood.
Environmental aspects of Fibre Drums
Fibre Drums are considered a sustainable packaging solution due to their properties and the materials used. Ideally, the kraftliner paper and cardboard used for the shell should come from PEFC-certified forestry. Bottoms and lids can be made of recyclable sheet metal, but there are also completely metal-free versions with bottoms and lids made of cardboard and/or wood. Cardboard drums are thus an environmentally friendly alternative to containers made of plastic or sheet steel.
