What are octabins?
Bulk goods optimally packed
Octabins are a heavy-duty packaging solution for the transport and storage of bulk goods such as granulates or regrind. The octagonal packaging made of sturdy corrugated cardboard consists of a base, walls and lid and can be erected manually. Corrugated cardboard of stable quality is used.
Due to the low weight of the hard-wearing packaging, this packaging solution is used at Ebbecke Verfahrenstechnik to reduce CO² emissions. The basic dimensions are usually 800 mm × 1200 mm, so that the octabin can be transported on an Euro pallet. Due to their size and the weight of the filling, octabins are glued several times with special glue and securely stapled with wire.
The dimensions of octabins are based on the dimensions of the usual pallet sizes, as they are transported on pallets. Due to the production from corrugated cardboard, however, individual sizes and special shapes are also possible. When producing special designs, there are usually additional tool costs that are no longer incurred with a standard design.
Depending on the version, octabins can hold up to 1.2 tons and can also be stacked twice. When stacking, however, make sure that the lower octabin is completely filled, as otherwise the space under the lid (head space) could lead to problems in terms of strength. The headspace is the area under the lid that is unfilled. The recommendation when stacking octabins is a filling that leaves a maximum of 10-15 cm head space.

Due to its structure, corrugated cardboard can give the walls of octabins sufficient stability.
